Number Line Jump

Number Line Jump is a visual math game where you move a frog along a number line to reach a target flag. You enter jump distances: positive numbers move the frog right, negative numbers move it left. The goal is to land exactly on the target within the allowed number of jumps. Ten progressive levels take you from simple addition to negative-number navigation.

How to Play

  1. The frog appears at a starting number on the number line.
  2. A target flag marks where you need to land.
  3. Type a jump distance. For example, typing 3 moves the frog 3 spaces right.
  4. Type a negative number to jump left. For example, -4 moves 4 spaces left.
  5. Land exactly on the target to advance. Overshoot or run out of jumps and you retry.

What Number Lines Teach

The number line is a core math model. It makes abstract quantities visible and concrete. Kids who work with number lines develop stronger number sense, better understand the relationship between addition and subtraction, and transition more smoothly to negative numbers, fractions, and coordinate graphing. This game gives them repeated practice in a format that feels like play rather than drill.

Progressive Difficulty

Levels 1 through 3 use small positive numbers (0 to 15) with three jumps allowed. This builds basic addition fluency. Levels 4 through 6 expand the range to 0 to 30, requiring larger or multi-step jumps. Levels 7 and 8 introduce negative numbers, teaching that leftward movement on the number line corresponds to subtraction. Levels 9 and 10 combine wide ranges with fewer jumps (only two), pushing players to calculate efficiently.
