Number Strategy Game
Tic-Tac-Toe with Numbers
Tic-tac-toe with numbers keeps the familiar goal of making a line, but the pieces are numbers. In the make-15 version, each player claims numbers from 1 to 9. The first player to own three numbers that add to 15 wins.
This makes the game feel familiar and surprising at the same time. You still care about center control, blocking, and forks, but every threat is expressed as a number combination.
The 3x3 Magic Square
The reason the game works is the classic 3x3 magic square. Every row, column, and diagonal adds to 15:
| 8 | 1 | 6 |
| 3 | 5 | 7 |
| 4 | 9 | 2 |
If you own 8, 5, and 2, you own a diagonal and also a 15-sum triple. If your opponent owns 4 and 9, you should watch the number 2 because 4 + 9 + 2 = 15.
Basic Strategy
- Value 5 because it is part of four winning triples.
- Block immediately when your opponent has two numbers in a 15-sum line.
- Look for forks, where one move creates two possible wins.
- Do not only calculate sums; visualize the magic-square board.
Play the Number Duel Version
Number Duel includes Fifteen Duel, a browser-friendly version of tic-tac-toe with numbers. It also includes Sum Duel and Product Duel, which turn arithmetic targets into a larger board-control game.
